Hulk in Progress

Okay, so Stephen and I were talking about the merits of different super heroes the other day and it got me in the mood to do a Hulk painting. I've never been a super huge fan of the Hulk, but he is a lot of fun to draw. I'm not sure where to go from here, though. Any suggestions?

  1. It seems like the Hulk's foot coming forward should be coming out of the fog a bit more to show how close he's getting to Wolverine. It also seems like the happy sky blue in the background is a little inappropriate for this scene. I did the fog, but maybe explore other colors/lighting to make it more dramatic... because the scene is DRAMATIC! It would't take much to make it a night/evening scene with like city street lights for back lighting. The fog would probably have to be darker for that though. Sweet work, Randy!

  2. Sorry Shara, but I'm going to have to disagree on the sky. Superheros don't just fight at night. I like the north by northwest feeling: the hulk came outta nowhere! I would like to see a foggy (maybe dust rubble cloud?) indication of where they are fighting. Is is a train yard or a suburban neighborhood or the seaside docks? It can be subtle but add to the story telling of the piece. ps. Love the characters. I like how you let some of your sketch show through to add information. Awesome.

  3. I've kinda already told you what I thought. But, I found this from an artist that I like. It might help you push dramatic lighting some:

  5. I thought it looked snowy- maybe suggest some glaciers or icy mountains?
